With Penn State’s win over Ohio State, the Nittany Lion factor has officially spread into the veins of college football. Teams who can no longer become bowl eligibleĮastern Michigan, Idaho, North Texas, San Diego State, SMU, Utah State, Washington, and Washington State This is a great place for a nice picnic with that special person, or for a nice evening jog to clear your mind.North Carolina, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Western Michigan If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Lubbock and Mackenzie Park, you can always stop by Dunbar Historic Lake and take in a breathtaking view of a clean lake, a beautiful waterfall, and even feed some ducks.
Lastly, if you want to have fun on a budget, Lubbock is full of landmarks, parks, and gorgeous scenery. And don’t worry they’ll bring you back to your car at the end of the night. The best thing about it, it’s ALL FREE!! The city of Lubbock even provides locals with trollies to transport them all around the downtown area to check out the pieces and if they like them, even purchase. There are paintings, exhibits, sculptures, and decorative pieces at each of the multiple locations on the trail. This is one of my favorite cultured events Lubbock has to offer, every first Friday of every month, local Lubbockians flock downtown to take in the various forms of art from local artists. Especially for the summer when they have great deals for big groups of people with fun passes for everyone. (I know, what is my life?) But if you’ll allow me to finish, this is a pretty good place to hang out with a bunch of friends and family and bowl, play laser tag, and some mini golf for a relatively decent price. So, confession time… I had never been to, or heard of Main Event until I got to Lubbock. So whenever you’re feeling like taking in the sites, a jog, or taking the kiddos for some fun, this is the place for you.
It even shares land with the theme park of Lubbock, Joyland. Throughout the year, it host a magnitude of events from, the Diabetes Walk, the Color Run, 4 th of July Fireworks, and many more. This is one of many parks Lubbock has to offer, but it is by far the biggest.
And even better, the cost you would pay at a normal movie theater, you pay the same price for TWO! And they are recent movies! And if you happen to fall asleep during the movie, no one will ever know because you’re in the comfort of your own car! These reasons and many more are why I love to go to the drive-in whenever possible, and catch a great movie on the cheap. But the Flintstones had a great idea, a drive-in movie is excellent! It’s great to catch with your boys, your girls, family, or even a date. When I got to Lubbock, the only thing I knew about a drive-in theater, was that the Flintstones went there all the time with Barney and the gang while Dino tore through the car roof trying to see. Have you ever been to a drive-in movie? Did you even know those things still existed? They actually do and they’re #Amazing! (And no, I’m not impersonating a guy from New York talking about the glorious things on a female’s chest) But in between all the dust, there is a world full of culture and family fun, you just have to look for it. Sure there are dust storms, and from time to time, the forecast reads “dust”, and there are also Haboobs. Lubbock does have fun things to offer, it’s not the dry, dirty, dustbowl it has been made to look like.
(It’ll never be San Antonio to me, but it was a nice placeholder in the meantime) Now that I’m leaving the city of Lubbock for bigger and better things after taking a job in the DFW area, I feel that this is as good a time as any to show love for the city that has given me so much. So in that time, I’ve developed a love for the city, I see it as my city. Now I’m not originally from Lubbock, but I’ve been proud to call myself a resident of the city for the past 5 years. We’ve been on list of “The most boring city in America”, and “The most boring city to celebrate the 4 th of July in”. Lately the city of Lubbock has been taking some L’s in the public eye.
